* 投稿摘要: Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) results in numerous complications and is a major cause of death worldwide. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), a marker of glycation, may be a therapeutic target for T2DM. According to the description of the instruction manual, the whole blood specimens should be collected in a vacuum collection tube containing EDTA, sodium heparin or sodium citrate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of NaF on the levels of HbA1c. Methods: Paired venous blood samples from out patient department of Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital (n=44) were collected in both K2EDTA and NaF/K3EDTA tubes at the same time. HbA1c were performed by using an autoanalyzer (Bio-Rad Variant II Turbo 2.0). The differences, coefficient of correlation and equation of linear regression between both groups were evaluated on Microsoft Office Excel 2003. Results: The differences between both groups were lower than within-subject biological variation (CVw = 1.9%). Coefficient of correlation and equation of linear regression were 0.999 and y = 1.0006x + 0.0272, respectively. Therefore, HbA1c was decided to perform with NaF/K3EDTA vacutainer tube. Conclusion: The effects of NaF on the HbA1c levels might be ignored.
