* 投稿摘要： Introduction: Many papers provide evidence that excess energy intake and obesity is associated increased risk of colorectal cancer. Metformin is an antidiabetic drug which can activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). More recent studies suggest AMPK has a wider role in metabolic regulation. Therefore Metformin is currently under investigation for its anticancer activity. In previous study, metformin may have the ability to block the effect of the high-energy diet on tumor growth, reduce insulin levels. Algire et al. use MC38 colorectal cancer cell line and found metformin has the ability to decrease tumor growth. Gray et al. found metformin has a beneficial treatment on colorectal cancer. Method and Result: We collected the database from 2008 to 2010 and found that there are 473 colorectal cancer patients in 2008, 478 in 2009 and 576 in 2010. We traced 47 patients who have DM and colorectal cancer. Age average is 62.6 years old. The three-year survival rate is 85.1% (40/47). There are 11 patients who eat metformin and three-year survival rate is 72.7% (8/11). Age average is 72.7 years old. Discussion: Metformin maybe a potential role to treat colorectal cancer. Some of the most metformin side effects can include indigestion, headache, and diarrhea. Therefore there are still many problems to study. Age, tumor size, genes and DM type may influence the effect of drug. Hosono et al. observed that on significant difference in body weight or glucose concentration. Although the three-year survival rate of the patients who eat metformin is lower than not eat. But the age average of patients who eat metformin is higher than not eat. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer. A good drug is important for patients who get coloreatal cancer. Metformin could be a potential drug to resolve this problem.
